Miraggi, riflessi di luce e il mito della Fata del Mare. E di rara bellezza quello che accade quando l’acqua limpida dello stretto di Messina regala la Magia della Fata Morgana…… Si stiamo parlando dello stretto di Messina dalle Sponde di Reggio Calabria, teatro del mito. Di Scilla e Cariddi, di Ercole…e tante altre storie che non fanno altro che affascinare e arricchire di mistero la nostra Calabria Mitica, Magica, Eroica. Ma iniziamo raccontandovi di lei “la fata Morgana la fata delle Acque”. Il mito Tramandato per anni di origine Celtica arrivò tra la Calabria e la Sicilia su una nave con effige della Triscele antico simbolo formato da tre spirali unite in un punto centrale che in seguito divenne parte integrante della Simbologia della Sicilia, ma anche dell’antico viaggio che unì il nord al sud dell’Europa, i normanni e i siciliani. Morgana e il Fratellastro Artù. Artù decise che l’isola sarebbe diventata la sua dimora e Morgana preoccupata che i barbari potessero mettere in pericolo la vita del Fratellastro scelse di fermarsi al centro dello stretto di Messina a guardia dello stesso ma anche dell’isola. In un castello con due torri che leggenda vuole si trovasse sotto il Pelo dell’acqua. Si racconta che un Re dei barbari partì alla conquista della penisola e in una calda giornata di agosto, arrivato a Reggio Calabria, vide a pochi chilometri, divisa dal mare, un’isola bellissima florida con le sue spiagge e un monte impetuoso e fumante: l’Etna. Il Re contemplava a largo, quella terra che per lui era irraggiungibile in quanto non era mai partito per mari e non possedeva una nave. Morgana bellissima apparve con un suo incantesimo, la Sicilia appari talmente vicina che esorto il Re a raggiungerla a nuoto…ma una volta tuffatosi in mare l’incantesimo si interruppe e il re morì annegato. Il frate Ignazio Angeluccio in una lettera al fratel maggiore Leone Sancio racconta di trovarsi a Reggio Calabria nel 1648 e descrive così l’evento della Fata Morgana: “Il mare che bagna la Sicilia si gonfiò e diventò per dieci miglia di lunghezza come una spina di montagna nera, e quella della Calabria spianò, e comparve in un momento un cristallo chiarissimo e trasparente che pareva uno specchio e pareva con la cima appoggiare sulla montagna e col piede al lido della Calabria. In questo specchio subito comparve una fila di più di diecimila pilastri equidistanti, tutti di un vivissimo chiarore e uguali in larghezza e altezza, di un’altra medesima tinta erano gli sfondi tra i pilastri. In un momento poi i pilastri si smezzarono di altezza e si curvarono in una forma simile a quella degli acquedotti di Roma, e restò semplice specchio il resto del mare, ma per poco; perché tosto si formò un gran cornicione. Poco dopo sopra il cornicione si formarono castelli reali in quantità, disposti in quella vastissima piazza di vetro, e tutti di una forma e lavoro. Poscia le torri si cambiarono in teatro di colonnati e, il teatro si estese e fece una doppia fuga; quindi, la fuga dei colonnati divenne una lunghissima facciata di finestre in fila; in quella facciata si vide una varietà di selve, di pini e di cipressi uguali, e di altre varietà di alberi; poi tutto disparve, e il mare, con un po’ di vento tornò mare. Questa è la Fata Morgana che da sempre affascina e ci fa stare con gli occhi rivolti verso lo stretto di Messina È una forma complessa e insolita di miraggio una insolita rifrazione della luce che appare solo in determinate aree della terra……e chissà che un giorno fotograferemo anche noi....
